This small dog is known for its fiery temperament and certainly knows how to make its presence felt. This Russell Terrier and the Jack Russell Terrier are actually the same breed, although the Parson Russell Terrier is a separate breed.
Origins
This breed was named after the clergyman named Reverend John Russell and was originally used in the middle part of the 19th century as a small game hunting dog. The tenacity and agility of the Jack Russell Terrier made it ideal for tracking and retrieving animals such as red foxes and badgers. Breeders emphasised the working ability of the Jack Russell Terrier, which made the standard very broad. In 2003 the Jack Russell Terrier Association of America became the Parson Russell Terrier Association of America.
